Our team of trained search and rescue volunteers are committed to locating missing and lost persons efficiently and effectively as possible.

Search and rescue

Carleton Ground Search and Rescue (CGSAR) is a volunteer organization dedicated to assisting police and emergency services in locating and rescuing missing persons. Its skilled members are trained in search techniques, navigation, survival, and emergency response which enables them to operate effectively in challenging environments and conditions.

Community

CGSAR plays an active role in supporting the community through a variety of services beyond emergency response. Volunteers assist during events, and public gatherings, ensuring safety and providing first aid support. They also conduct wellness checks during severe weather or power outages and deliver educational presentations, such as the Hug-a-Tree program.

Carleton Ground Search and Rescue (CGSAR) is a team of dedicated volunteers who have been helping find missing people since 1985. We are trained to handle tough terrain and work closely with police and emergency services. Whether it’s out in the woods or around town, CGSAR is all about keeping the community safe and stepping up when it matters most.

Carleton Ground Search and Rescue is a proud member of the New Brunswick Ground Search and Rescue Association (NBGSARA), working in partnership with other teams across the province to maintain consistent training, standards, and coordination in search operations. Through this association, Carleton GSAR participates in province-wide initiatives, shares resources, and contributes to a strong, unified network dedicated to public safety and effective emergency response.

Education and Community

hug-a-tree program

Carleton Ground Search and Rescue teaches children outdoor safety through Hug-A-Tree and Survive school presentations. Volunteers share simple tips to help kids stay safe if lost, building confidence and peace of mind.

first aid

CGSAR supports community safety by providing first aid at events and emergencies. Trained volunteers care for the injured until medical help arrives, enhancing safety and demonstrating professionalism and commitment.

NON-EMERGENCY SUPPORT

CGSAR supports community events by assisting with crowd management and communication. Our presence helps keep events safe, provides quick response if needed, and supports organizers and attendees alike.

Membership

No previous search and rescue experience is needed—you will receive all the required training to become an operational searcher.
